If you are struggling to stick with, and achieve your goals, Resolute will help you remain on track toget the outcomes you desire
CHRISTCHURCH – June 1, 2025 – Resolute, a Christchurch company, today launched a new application for Android, iOS and the web that helps users set, and achieve goals using research based insights.
In today’s fast paced world, many individuals struggle to maintain consistent habits and achieve their personal goals. Indeed, 43% of adults have given up on their New Year’s resolutions by the end of January. While you may set goals with the best genuine intent, we overestimate our willpower, and underestimate how much our environment and routines shape our behaviour. People often struggle to follow through, due to vague objectives, unconscious behavioural patterns and a tendency to lose focus on what they are trying to achieve in amoungst a busy life. How often have you set a goal, and a few days later been distracted by life and forgotten where you were intending to go, to then later remember and realised you’d missed opportunities to move yourself in the right direction? How often have you set an ambition, to only a few weeks later find it no longer motivated you? How often have you found yourself doing things which are counter to your goal, almost subconsciously and being frustrated by the lack of progress? If you’re like most people, it is more often than you’d like.
Resolute solves these problems by providing structure to help you have the best chance of achieving your goal. It helps bridge the gap between your initial intention and the outcome by guiding you to create goals that compel and can be achieved by writing SMARTER goals. Our AI assisted wizard helps you construct a goal worth achieving that has all the components that will help you succeed. It brings unconscious behaviours into the light through a personal ledger, helping you track and reflect on the small choices that shape your progress. It encourages you to celebrate and reward yourself when you have done the mahi without losing sight of the end goal. It uses randomised reminders to keep your intentions front of mind in a way that cuts through the noise of daily life. It’s a simple tool, that you can personalise to suit what you want to achieve, and how much you are willing to put in to it, while giving you control and a feeling of real progress.
Our goal with Resolute is to increase the users awareness, motivation and focus on what they already want to achieve, to help give them a better chance of getting the outcomes they desire and deserve. In our current environment the world often sets how we behave through the pressures it puts on us, Resolute is there to help us take some of that control back allowing us to craft our own habits.

To try Resolute, go to resolute.shanereeves.co.nz to access the web application. Once you have created a login our AI wizard will walk you through the process of turning your desires into well constructed SMARTER goals. Having done this you are able to decide what behaviours you want to reward, and then choose how you want to reward them. You get to assign your own points to each behaviour and the exchange rate needed to trade those same points for rewards. This allows you not only to track your behaviours, it helps you celebrate success by enjoying rewards which you want, but do not derail your progress. Finally you can create prompts that at random intervals will gently remind you of your intent. You can set the content of the prompts, including using beautiful inspiring imagery, the window which you would like to receive them, and how many you will receive. Resolute will then be beside you through your ups and downs in your progress, giving you nudges and helping you monitor and celebrate your progress, ultimately increasing the chance of reaching your goal.
I’m great at helping others hit their goals, but my own ones used to drift. Resolute gives me that gentle pressure to stay aligned with what I said I’d do.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from other SMART goal-setting tools I’ve seen?
This tool uses the SMARTER framework, which maintains a lot what is good about SMART goals, but adds what was missing, and that is how do we make the goals truly motivating? By ensuring the goal is engaging – something that actually excites you, and is rewarded – either inherently or externally, you can increase the chance that in the future you will maintain today’s genuine intent to achieve it, and still be driven to achieve it. Finally, we use modern LLM AI to help you when you get stuck.
Will the AI suggestions actually be tailored to me, or are they generic?
The AI suggestions utilise your inputs to questions, the more detailed you are in your responses to the questions, the more specific it will be for you. If you are not sure where to start however it can give a range of generic ideas as a starting point.
Can I adjust my goals or the ledger settings as my habits evolve?
Absolutely, life changes all the time, and anything that is going to be able to help you should be able to adjust. Nothing is set in stone, and indeed the best thing you can do is review every now and then and adjust. To support this both the goals, the ledger, and the prompts can be edited, added, or removed as you need. Future releases will have a review component to help you critically look at your use of Resolute and how to adjust things to be even more successful.
Will this work alongside other tools I already use like Google Calendar or Notion
At present there is no standard integration built in yet. However future releases will have integration with regular productivity tools such as Google or Outlook calendars, as well as other behaviour tracking tools like Strava and MyFitnessPal.
Will tracking “bad” behaviours make me feel worse about myself?
Not at all—the ledger is built on the principle of fairness and balance. It’s not about punishment. It’s a way to acknowledge your wins and enjoy your rewards without guilt. Think of it as a tool for building self-worth, not shame.
Can I use the app to set reminders to include affirmations that align with my values?
Yes, you can customise your reminders with any language, tone, or imagery that resonates with you. Whether that’s a whakataukī, an affirmation, or a photo of your kids—your reminders are yours to design.
What happens if I fall off track – does the app give encouragement or is it just tracking my slip-ups?
Resolute is built with the idea that we need to be present with our goals in mind. It doesn’t judge or penalise—it reminds you why you started, helps you reflect, and nudges you gently back on course. This isn’t about perfection; it’s about direction.
Do I have to be super strict with point values in the ledger, or just use them as a guide?
The idea is to set the points that work for you. It’s not about precision, instead it is about making it easy for you. I like to use it for running, so I make every 10 minutes worth a point, if I run for 46mins, I round it up (because why not?), and just enter 5 * 10 minute blocks – that’s it. The app will then add the points into your balance. The more behaviours you track the more visibility you will get over your unconscious decisions, but how much you use it is up to you. Many users find it empowering rather than restrictive.
Why random reminders? Can’t I just use my smartwatch or calendar reminders?
Regular reminders at the same time become background noise—our brains start ignoring them. Random reminders break that pattern, keeping your goals front of mind when you least expect it. That novelty makes it more likely to re-engage your focus.
Will I get anything out of the app if I don’t use all three features?
Definitely. You can use just one or all three. Some people only want the reminders, others just want help clarifying their goals. We’ve designed it modularly so it fits you, not the other way around.
Press Release / FAQ
The above is an approach to product development used by Amazon. It was recommended to me as a way to get clarity and help shape the first release of Resolute. A key to this is getting feedback, so I would love any thoughts or feedback you have around the Resolute app as outlined. Consider: would it work for you, would you use it, what would make it good for you, are there any questions that are left unanswered?
I’d love to hear from you and greatly appreciate it,
Ngā mihi nui,
Shane
First of all, I just want to acknowledge how open and vulnerable you’ve been throughout your blog —especially in sharing how perfectionism can hold you back from putting your big ideas into the world. That level of self-awareness is rare and honestly a strength in itself. I really admire your courage in pushing through that and choosing to share your project.
From what you’ve shared about your app, I can genuinely see how capable, smart, and innovative you are. You have a natural ability to connect ideas with purpose—and that’s powerful. Your concept of using AI to help people stay on track with their goals, especially through the SMARTER method, is incredibly relevant and needed. Just the idea alone has so much potential to act as a springboard for positive change.
One thing that really excites me is the possibility of how this tool can go beyond just tracking goals and actually help people connect back to the “why” behind them. That kind of emotional and motivational reinforcement is such a missing link in many productivity tools, and you’re clearly addressing that gap.
If you’re open to ideas, one area that could elevate this even further is tapping into some of the research around visualisation, particularly the role of subconscious mind, and even the psychology of positive rewards. I know visualising the end result helps keep me motivated. Perhaps the app could offer optional features like visual goal mapping, small milestone celebrations, or even reflective journaling prompts to strengthen commitment and self-belief. These don’t have to be big, but even small nudges like this could make the experience more engaging and human.
You have so much to offer, and this project really shows that. Big ideas are meant to be shared, not perfected in silence—and collaborating with others only makes them stronger. You’re doing something meaningful, and I’m genuinely excited to see where it goes.
Keep going—you’re more than capable, and this is just the beginning.
I really enjoy the refreshing change of intent Resolute provides among its competitors. This is an accessible solution that puts the user at the forefront of the behavioral change, empowering them in their own journey and facilitating them to take back the power over their choices.
I enjoy how much personalisation is integrated into the app, particularly through the AI function and ability to use personal affirmations and photos. These features remind the user of that the purpose behind these goals are to better themselves and their life and allows them to continue shifting beliefs and mindset in real time. This feels like a very positive spin on an area of life that can sometimes be filled with insecurity, pressure, and negative self-talk.
The FAQ section of this blog was super helpful, providing further clarity and understanding of why this app is unique. I would loved to have seen some images/screen shots of what I could expect from the app to help me visualise the end product!
Overall, I am excited to see a product like this in the market and feel it will positively impact those that give it a go!
